President William Ruto accused the Ford Foundation, an American NGO, of financing recent anti-government protests in Kenya. Speaking at Keringet Market in Nakuru County, Ruto emphasized the need for peace and claimed certain parties were benefiting from the protests.
The President alleged that unidentified groups were receiving funds to stage protests and destabilize the country through violence and property destruction
“Those who are sponsoring the violence, we know them and I want to call out those who are behind the anarchy in Kenya. Shame on them!”
Calling Out Ford Foundation NGO
He directly called out the Ford Foundation, questioning their motives and accusing them of undermining Kenya’s democracy. Ruto stated:
“I want to ask the people from Ford Foundation to explain to us what they seek to gain by destabilizing Kenya’s democracy.”
Earlier, Ruto made similar statements during a development tour in Nakuru, vowing to stop those funding violence in Kenya. Ruto added,
“I want to tell those people who are taking money and trying to fund violence in Kenya that I will stop them. We want peace and that is our stand.”
He urged youth to reject involvement in activities that could lead to conflict and chaos.
“Our young people, please don’t allow people to make our country a country of war, destruction and chaos.
On July 3, the government announced that police were investigating six politicians, a businessman, and two NGOs suspected of financing the protests. The individuals under investigation reportedly include politicians from Rift Valley, Nairobi, and Central Kenya, as well as a Rift Valley-based businessman.
