MP Farah Maalim Refutes Allegations of Threatening Gen Z in Viral Video

Daadab constituency representative Farah Maalim has addressed a controversial video circulating on social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), which appeared to show him making threats against Generation Z protesters.

The video, which began trending on Tuesday, July 9, purportedly featured Maalim stating that if he were the current president, he would have killed 5,000 members of Generation Z in response to recent demonstrations against the Finance Bill.

Farah Maalim Refutes the Claims

However, in an interview with KTN News, the former deputy speaker of the National Assembly vehemently denied these claims, asserting that the video was a fabrication.

Maalim explained that the footage had been manipulated, with words taken out of context and rearranged to distort his original message.

Maalim stated. He suggested that individuals from the Somali community might be behind the edited video, possibly due to his recent comments on Somali politics.

Maalim clarified that the mention of “5,000” in the original context was related to a book launch event he had been discussing, not a threat against protesters. He emphasized that his primary concern with the anti-Finance Bill demonstrations was the protesters’ alleged threats to occupy protected areas such as the State House and Parliament.

This comes as Eric OMondi threatens to visit the Statehouse if he fails to fire cabinet secretaries.

The MP expressed his view that such actions, if carried out, would be tantamount to a coup attempt:

He further explained that these institutions are fundamental to Kenya’s democratic process, which allows citizens to elect their leaders every five years. Maalim argued that forcibly occupying these spaces would undermine the country’s democratic foundations and stability.
