The National Government, through the Ministry of Lands, introduced the Ardhi Sasa system on Monday, July 8, aimed at curbing land grabbing and fraud.
Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, speaking at the launch in Murang’a County, described the system as an enhanced version of the one previously used in Nairobi.
The new system will provide landowners with instant notifications if anyone attempts to access their land records. CS Wahome stated, reassuring Kenyans that:
“Beginning today, those problems (of land grabbing) are matters of the past. No one will be able to fraudulently tamper with your land ownership records,”
“The Ardhi Sasa system is designed to alert you by telephone and email, being a landowner anytime there is an attempt to conduct a transaction on his/her land.”
Property owners were encouraged to register their land in the system, as alerts will only be sent to those who have entered their information into the Ardhi Sasa database.
Future Plans on Ardhi Sasa Implementation
Currently, the system is operational only in Nairobi and Murang’a counties, with plans to expand to Isiolo, Marsabit, and Mombasa before a nationwide implementation.
CS Wahome elaborated on the future of land records by explaining that:
“Our objective is to ensure the platform becomes accessible in all parts of the country within the shortest possible time frame.”
The Cabinet Secretary hailed the launch of Ardhi Sasa as a significant achievement in the country’s development and land management system.
“The launch of Ardhi Sasa will strengthen the security of land tenure as it has been designed to remove human interference with land ownership records.”
