In a recent TikTok video, Kenyan social media personality Sheryl Gabriella opened up about her disappointment with Kenyan musician Willy Paul. The influencer claims that the artist failed to properly acknowledge her significant contribution to the viral success of his hit song ‘Kuu Kuu‘.

The Offer That Sparked Controversy
Sheryl shared that Willy Paul’s attempt to show appreciation for her efforts left her feeling undervalued. She revealed,
“Na akaniambia. One way of appreciating me is by writing a song, Na nikue vixen kwa hiyo song, nikakataa.” (And he told me. One way of appreciating me is by writing a song, and I should be the vixen in that song, but I refused.)
This proposition from Willy Paul apparently struck a nerve with Sheryl, leading her to take unexpected action in response.
A Surprising Twist
Fueled by her frustration, Sheryl made a bold decision. She explained,
“That’s why nilikasirika nikafanya song ya Diamond yenye iko 6 million yake hata sijui yake iko ngapi.” (That’s why I got angry and promoted Diamond’s song, which now has 6 million views. I don’t even know how many views Willy’s has.)
The song in question is ‘Ololufe‘, a collaboration between Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz and fellow artist JUX. Sheryl’s promotional efforts for this track can be seen as a direct response to her perceived slight from Willy Paul.
Sheryl was quick to emphasize that she never sought fame or special recognition from her involvement with Willy Paul’s ‘Kuu Kuu‘. In fact, she admitted to initial reluctance about meeting the artist at all.
