The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has called on Senator Karungo Thang’wa to appear for questioning regarding violent disruptions at a funeral in Limuru. The incident, which took place on Thursday, November 28, at Bibirioni Boys High School playground, involved the destruction of property and created significant disturbance during an event attended by former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
A viral video captured the chaotic scenes, showing unruly individuals dismantling the VIP tent and destroying chairs. The disruption was so intense that Gachagua was forced to leave the event without delivering a speech to the mourners.
In an official notice dated November 28, DCI Officer Joseph Chirchir summoned Thang’wa to assist with investigations into alleged malicious property damage and potential injuries. The senator has been instructed to appear before the Regional Criminal Investigations Officer in Nyeri on Friday, November 29, at 10 AM, citing Section 52(1) of the National Police Act.
Thang’wa quickly responded to the summons on social media, characterizing the action as an intimidation tactic. He questioned why he was being asked to travel to Nyeri for an incident that occurred in Limuru, stating:
“They refuse to meet us at the CID headquarters on Kiambu Road but shamelessly summon us to Nyeri over an incident that occurred in Limuru. This intimidation will neither intimidate nor silence us. See you in Nyeri tomorrow at 10 a.m.”
