Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made claims regarding an alleged plot to remove him from office. Speaking at a public rally in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, Gachagua asserted that Members of Parliament were being offered 5 million to support his impeachment.
The Alleged Bribery Attempt
According to Gachagua, his political opponents are resorting to extreme measures, including financial inducements, to orchestrate his removal from the deputy presidency. He specifically mentioned two local politicians who he claims were approached with bribes:
- Senator James Murango: Gachagua alleged that the Kirinyaga Senator was offered KSh 5 million to support the impeachment motion, which he purportedly declined.
- Woman Representative Njeri Maina: The Deputy President stated that Maina was also pressured to back his impeachment. Gachagua recounted the alleged incident, saying:
“Njeri was called, and they tried scaring her by asking her to sign for my impeachment, but she declined. She was told to take Ksh.5 million but refused.”
Gachagua’s Defense and Counterclaims
The Deputy President didn’t hold back in his criticism of the alleged impeachment attempts. He reminded the audience and, by extension, President Ruto, of his significant role in the current administration’s rise to power.
Gachagua boldly asserted that without his support and influence, particularly in the Mount Kenya region, the present government would not be in office.
