The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has issued a notice for a significant road closure affecting the Kiambu Road section.
The closure will take two weeks, starting from December 23, 2024, at midnight and continuing until January 6, 2025, at 6:00 PM. This temporary shutdown is necessary to facilitate comprehensive rehabilitation and reconstruction work on the Ruiru-Tatu City-Kiambu (B115) Road.

KeNHA stated in their official announcement released on Saturday, December 21:
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to inform the public that Ruiru-Tatu City-Kiambu (B115) Road will be temporarily closed at a section between Kirigiti Roundabout to St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.”
Alternative Routes and Traffic Management
Motorists who regularly use this route will need to take a diversion through the Kirigiti-Rui Stage Junction-Kiambu Town route throughout the closure period.
KeNHA has emphasized the importance of driver cooperation, requesting road users to:
– Exercise heightened caution around construction zones
– Strictly follow the proposed traffic management plan
– Comply with instructions from on-site police officers and traffic marshals
Impact on Holiday Travel
This closure coincides with the busy holiday season, adding to existing traffic challenges in the region. The timing is particularly significant as it affects one of the major arteries used by holiday travelers.
The announcement follows recent traffic challenges on other major routes. Just one day prior, KeNHA reported significant congestion along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
KeNHA Director General Kung’u Ndung’u confirmed that the traffic buildup was primarily affecting:
– The Rironi-Naivasha-Nakuru Road
– The Rironi-Mai Mahiu-Naivasha Road

KeNHA assured in their statement,
“The Authority, with the support of traffic police, is on hand to provide the necessary guidance and traffic control to ensure you reach your destinations safely and without delays.”
The St John Ambulance service has reported heavy traffic congestion specifically between Kimende and Flyover sections of the highway, highlighting the immediate challenges faced by motorists in the region.
