A major reorganization within Kenya’s National Police Service (NPS) has led to significant leadership changes across various departments and regions. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the key appointments and transfers.

Major Police Leadership Changes
In a notable shift at the top of Nairobi’s police force, Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei has been promoted to Director of Operations at the police headquarters.
Bungei, who had served as Nairobi’s commander since November 14, 2022, brought substantial experience to the role, having previously served as Baringo County Police Commander and held OCPD positions in Nairobi’s Buruburu and Central divisions.
Coast Regional Police Commander George Sedah will step into Bungei’s former role as Nairobi’s new regional commander.
Meanwhile, the NPS spokesperson position will see a transition as Resila Onyango moves to lead the Diplomatic Police Unit as Commandant, with former Kiambu Police Commander Michael Nyaga Muchiri taking over as the new police spokesperson.

Regional and Specialized Unit Appointments
The reshuffle has brought several strategic changes to regional commands and specialized units:
Ali Nuno, previously Kwale County Police Commander, has received a promotion to Coast Regional Police Commander, filling the vacancy left by Sedah’s move to Nairobi.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has seen significant changes, with Amos Omuga, who headed legal services, being transferred to NPS headquarters in a similar capacity.
A swap has occurred in forensics leadership, with Dr. Mwangi Wanderi moving from the National Forensics Laboratory to become Director of Human Capital at Vigilance House, while Rosemary Kuraru takes his former position at the forensics lab.
Michael Sang, who led the Serious Crime Unit (SCU) at DCI, will now head DCI operations in the Eastern region.
Additional Strategic Deployments
The reorganization extends to other key positions. Community policing sees new leadership with Judy Jebet taking over from John Gachomo, who moves to police headquarters.
Rhoda Kinanu, who served as Diplomatic Police Unit Commandant, has been reassigned to police headquarters.
Daniel Korir transitions from Eastern Regional Head of DCI to command the Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU).
These changes follow the government’s commitment to security sector reforms, including recent Cabinet changes that saw Kipchumba Murkomen appointed as Interior Cabinet Secretary by President William Ruto.
