On Wednesday, September 25, Kericho Governor Eric Mutai found himself in a precarious position as he faced the looming threat of impeachment.
In a heartfelt appeal, the embattled leader reached out to both the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) and the residents of Kericho, imploring them to reconsider the impeachment proceedings against him.
Allegations and Apologies
Governor Mutai stands accused of serious misconduct, including gross violations of the constitution and sexual-related offenses.
He chose to address these allegations head-on, offering a public apology to the MCAs and the people of Kericho. His plea for forgiveness was not just for any specific wrongdoing, but for any actions that might have been perceived as inappropriate or harmful during his tenure.
He emphasized his roles as a son, husband, and father, particularly highlighting the impact the impeachment would have on his young family.
The governor’s words carried a tone of vulnerability and desperation as he stated:
“I beseech you, the county assembly. I am a son to someone, too; I’m a husband, a father, and a young family member. To the residents of the county, if I have done anything wrong, please forgive me. Members of the county assembly led by the majority leader whom I have worked together with, please forgive me for the sake of children.”
