4.2 Million Prepaid Meters Updated So Far

According to a recent press release seen by Tujue Media, Kenya Power reported significant progress in their nationwide upgrade initiative. As of July 15, 4.2 million customers had successfully completed the update process for their prepaid token meters.

This achievement marks a substantial step forward in the company’s ambitious “Update Token Meter Yako” campaign, which was launched on June 12, 2024, with the goal of updating all 7.4 million prepaid meters throughout Kenya.

Rosemary Oduor, Kenya Power’s General Manager for Commercial Services and Sales, expressed her appreciation for the public’s cooperation:

Simplified Access to Update Codes

Kenya Power has implemented this user-friendly backup system for those who lose their update code before updating their meters.  Oduor elaborated on this convenient solution:

This USSD service ensures that customers can easily retrieve their reset and update codes, even if they’ve misplaced the original text message containing this vital information.

Phased Approach to Meter Updates

To ensure a smooth and efficient upgrade process, Kenya Power is implementing the token meter updates in carefully planned phases. As of July 15, over 7.2 million prepaid token meters had been scheduled for updates across various stages of the initiative.

The company reassures customers who have not yet received their reset and update codes that they are in the queue for processing.

With the total target of 7.4 million prepaid token meters in sight, Kenya Power has confirmed that the remaining approximately 200,000 meters will be scheduled for updates in the coming days, ensuring complete coverage of their customer base.
