In a coordinated operation involving multiple law enforcement units, including the Operation Support Unit (OSU) and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, authorities successfully apprehended the suspects from various hideouts across the Coastal Region.
The DCI reports recovering crucial evidence linking the suspects to the crime, including phones that belonged to the victim’s son.
The Fatal Incident
The tragic event occurred in the early hours of January 5, when armed intruders broke into Abubakar’s Utange residence.
“They gained access to the house by cutting the grills of the kitchen window while armed with a crowbar and knife,” according to the police report.
The Attack
The assailants:
- Forcibly entered through the kitchen window at approximately 3 AM
- Physically assaulted Abubakar’s son, rendering him unconscious
- Fatally stabbed Aisha Abubakar despite her pleas for mercy
- Stole various items including:
- Two Samsung phones
- An iPad
- A 65-inch TV set
- A sound system
- ATM cards (after demanding PINs)
Family’s Perspective
Abubakar’s brother revealed a concerning detail about the incident:
“They didn’t steal much, just a TV set, and tore an IEBC bag, stole the documents that were inside, then left the bag on the floor and left.”
The victim’s son, Abubakar Hassan, who was injured during the attack, believes the intruders had specific intentions:
“Whatever has happened has happened. My mom was attacked while at her home in Utange, and from the look of things, the aim was to finish her, and they have succeeded.”
Ongoing Investigation
While these arrests mark a significant breakthrough, investigators continue their work to establish the precise motive behind the attack.
