How to Share Safaricom Internet with Another Number or Person

We all know Sambaza. You press *544#, go to sambaza internet, enter the amount of data bundle and phone number, and you send. Right?

Well, if you have a lot of data on your phone, whether on prepay or post-pay and wish to add your loved ones to use it rather than sending them the data, you can do so by sharing.

That’s right!

This method allows you to create a personal hotspot, enabling others to access your internet directly from their devices.

Let me show you just how this is possible!

So, if you’re ready to become the internet hero in your circle, let’s do this!

1. Launch the mySafaricom App on your smartphone. Ensure you’re logged in to your account.

2. On the main screen, locate and tap the ‘Data, Calls, SMS & Airtime’ option. This section manages all your communication services.

3. Scroll down to find the ‘Share Data’ feature at the bottom of the screen. Tap on it to proceed.

4. The app will display your current Shareable Data Balance. This shows how much data you can potentially share with others.

5. Look for the ‘Add Beneficiary’ button and tap it. This allows you to select who will receive your shared data.

6. You can now either manually enter a phone number or select a contact from your phonebook. This will be the person who can access your shared data.

7. Next, specify the amount of data you want to share. You can share up to 1024MB (1GB) at a time. Use the slider or enter the amount manually.

8. You’ll be presented with three options: share Expiry data (which has a time limit), Non-Expiry data (which doesn’t expire) or Post Pay Data. Choose the one that suits your needs.

9. After confirming your choices, tap ‘Continue’ to proceed with the sharing process.

10. For security purposes, you’ll need to enter either your Safaricom Service PIN or M-Pesa PIN to authorize the transaction.

11. Once the process is complete, you’ll receive confirmation notifications. These will inform you that you’ve successfully allowed the specified contact to access your shared data.

12. The beneficiary will also receive a notification about the shared data. They can now use this data on their device, up to the limit you’ve set.

Remember, you can always manage or revoke data sharing permissions through the app if needed. This feature is particularly useful for families or groups who want to maximize their data usage efficiently.

Initially, Safaricom implemented strict limitations on the traditional ‘Sambaza’ data sharing:

– Maximum share amount reduced to 10 MB per transaction

– Sharing limited to twice daily

– Recipients could only receive up to 20 MB per day from a single sender

These restrictions, while necessary from Safaricom’s perspective, left many customers frustrated with the limited sharing capabilities.

In a significant shift, Safaricom introduced a new data sharing arrangement. Instead of directly transferring small amounts of data, customers can now add beneficiaries to their accounts, allowing for more generous data sharing.

This system operates through a dedicated web portal, offering several advantages:

The postpaid extension is particularly beneficial for customers who:

– Have large data allocations they struggle to fully utilize

– Primarily use their plan for voice calls but receive bundled data

– Often have access to Wi-Fi, leaving their mobile data underused

Yes, you can share safaricom data bundles even if you are on post pay. The process of Transfer is the same, and you can add up to 6 beneficiaries.

Note the following

1. Access method: Data sharing is now managed exclusively through the web portal, as the option has been removed from the mySafaricom app.

2. Usage tracking: Only the primary account holder can monitor data usage; beneficiaries cannot track their consumption of shared data.

Sharing your Safaricom internet connection with others is now easier and more flexible than ever before. Now you have the power to extend your data connectivity to friends, family, or colleagues with just a few simple steps.
