The Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) represents a groundbreaking initiative in Kenya’s healthcare sector, designed to revolutionize how citizens access and pay for medical services.

SHIF embodies the principle of universal health coverage, aiming to ensure that every Kenyan, regardless of their economic status, can receive quality healthcare without facing financial hardship.

The Social Health Authority (SHA) is the government agency tasked with overseeing SHIF. Other funds under SHA are; the Primary Health Care Fund (PHCF) and the Emergency Chronic and Critical Illness Fund (ECCF).

How will SHIF be different from NHIF? Find out below…

SHIF provides an extensive range of medical services, including:

Outpatient Care: Routine check-ups, consultations, and minor treatments.

Inpatient Services: Hospital stays, surgeries, and intensive care.

Maternity Care: Prenatal, delivery, and postnatal services. The government announced the resumption of Linda Mama Program under SHA

Emergency Treatment: Urgent medical attention for acute conditions or injuries.

Chronic Disease Management: Ongoing care for long-term health conditions.

Preventive Services: Vaccinations, health screenings, and wellness programs.
