Heroic Security Guard Fired for Shielding Protesters Reinstated and Given a Prestigious Award

In a remarkable turn of events, Vincent Chepkwony, the security guard who was initially fired for his courageous actions during recent protests in Nairobi, has not only been reinstated but also received the highest honor bestowed upon private security officers in Kenya.

In a detailed press release, the PSRA emphasized how Chepkwony’s actions showcased the vital role that private security officers play in safeguarding life and property.

The letter stated that:

Chepkwony’s story

Chepkwony’s story began at Java House on Kimathi Street, where he bravely shielded members of the public from harm during tumultuous protests

His selfless act, while lauded by many, initially cost him his job at Hatari Security, sparking widespread public outrage and concern.

The Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA), responding to the public outcry, convened a special consultative meeting to address the issue.

After a thorough review of the incident, the PSRA concluded that Chepkwony’s actions were not only heroic and patriotic but also exemplified the highest standards of dedication and courage expected from security personnel.

They determined that his conduct warranted commendation and promotion rather than dismissal, leading to a directive for Hatari Security Limited to reinstate him immediately.

Highest Honor and Commendation in Private Security

Going a step further, the PSRA awarded Chepkwony the highest honor and commendation available to private security officers in Kenya.

In a separate letter, they praised his “remarkable dedication and service in the private security industry in the country,” highlighting his “unwavering commitment, exceptional professionalism, and strict compliance with legal standards” as instrumental in advancing the private security sector in Kenya.

Chepkwony’s Support by Kenyans

The public’s response to Chepkwony’s initial dismissal was equally heartwarming. As news of his heroic act spread, Kenyans rallied behind him, with many volunteering to send financial support.
