Global pop icon Adele has recently hinted at plans for a significant break from her music career following her current concert commitments.
In an interview with German broadcaster ZDF, the multi-Grammy winner expressed a need for respite and creative exploration outside the music industry.
“My tank is quite empty at the minute,” Adele confessed, adding, “I don’t have any plans for new music at all. I want a big break after all this and I think I want to do other creative things just for a little while.”
The singer, known for her powerful ballads and emotive performances, surprised many by revealing,
“You know, I don’t even sing at home at all. How strange is that?”
Emotional Toll of Her Performances
Adele’s last studio album was released in 2021, and she has since been engaged in a two-year weekend residency at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. As she approaches her 90th show at the 4,000-capacity venue, the star reflected on the emotional toll of these intimate performances.
“Even though it’s a very manageable size of crowd, it’s really been an emotional exchange,” she explained. “I’m sure I’ll feel even more like [that] every night after the shows in Munich. But it’s a positive thing. It’s just such an exchange of energy.”
The Las Vegas residency, set to conclude in November, hasn’t been without its challenges. In June, Adele made headlines for confronting an audience member who allegedly shouted “Pride sucks” during her performance. When asked about the incident, the singer candidly admitted to her quick temper:
“Everything makes me angry. Absolutely everything. I’m 36 years old. I’m old and grumpy now.”
A Series of Concerts in Munich
Looking ahead, Adele is preparing for a series of concerts in Munich, where she’ll perform for crowds of 74,000 in a custom-built stadium.
The venue will feature an “Adele experience” complete with an English pub, cover band stage, and specialty cocktails. Organizers are even aiming for a Guinness World Record with a massive 220-meter outdoor screen.
Despite her continued success and upcoming shows, Adele expressed a desire to step back from the limelight, citing the challenges of fame.
“I miss everything about before I was famous, I think probably being anonymous the most,” she reflected. “I like that I get to make music all the time, whenever I want to, and people are receptive to it and like it. That’s pretty unimaginable. But the fame side of it, I absolutely hate.”
She concluded with a thoughtful perspective on her career:
“The fact that people are even interested in my songs and my voice is pretty wild. I don’t think it ever gets normal. So it’s worth it, the balance.”
