The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has exposed a new criminal trend involving drink spiking that specifically targets gun owners, following the arrest of two women in Nairobi.
According to the DCI, these criminals frequent bars and clubs, seeking out individuals carrying firearms. The perpetrators, often women, use charm to approach gun holders and then spike their drinks. Once the victim is incapacitated, the criminals steal the firearm and pass it to their gang associates in various parts of the city.
Recovered Firearms and Nabbed Perpetrators
This scheme came to light after the arrest of two women linked to gangs in Umoja 3 and Huruma. The DCI stated:
“The gang’s 40th day came racing when forensic analysis gave away the two women in whose rented house in Kayole were found 15 rounds of ammunition.”
“Upon interrogation, they led the officers to Umoja 3 where their suspected two male accomplices were nabbed, before proceeding to Huruma kwa Chege where a fifth suspect was arrested.”
A subsequent operation in Kiamaiko resulted in the recovery of two pistols (Ceska and Falcon) and three live rounds. The DCI revealed that one of the recovered firearms belonged to a police officer. The DCI statement explained that:
“Preliminary investigations have so far revealed that the Ceska pistol was robbed from an inspector of police based at Mowlen Police Station in Kamukunji on June 17, 2024, when he was accosted by members of the gang at night.”
