Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka Explains How Ksh 148 Million Was Spent on Madaraka Day Celebrations

Kenneth Lusaka, the Governor of Bungoma County, recently addressed a petition from the county’s youth seeking transparency on the expenditure for the Madaraka Day celebrations.

In his response, Governor Lusaka confirmed that the county had allocated a total of Ksh 148 million for the event, which took place on June 1, 2024, at the Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kanduyi.

Breakdown of Expenditures

One of the most notable allocations was Ksh 25 million for urban beautification projects. The governor elaborated that this substantial sum was primarily used for flower planting along the Musikoma-Kanduyi road, which leads to the Masinde Muliro Stadium.

In addition to the floral arrangements, the county invested Ksh 18 million in billboards and signage.

The lion’s share of the budget, Ksh 60 million, was directed towards the completion of Phase 1 of the Masinde Muliro Stadium

To facilitate smooth access to the event site, the county allocated Ksh 24.8 million for roads and civil works. This expenditure likely covered road repairs, temporary parking facilities, and other necessary infrastructure improvements.

The county dedicated a considerable portion of the budget to publicity efforts:

– Ksh 15.5 million for overall advertising and publicity

– Ksh 8 million specifically for media mobilization

– Ksh1.5 million for digital advertising

– The remainder was used for printing fliers and flags

An allocation of Ks h5 million was made for the preparation of the county handbook.

The education and vocational department received Ksh 1 million from the Madaraka Day budget.
