Acting Police Inspector General (IG) Gilbert Masengeli has confidently stated that the National Police Service is fully prepared to maintain order during the upcoming anti-government protests scheduled for Thursday.
The demonstrations, organized by Gen Z activists and dubbed ‘#NaneNanematch’, have prompted a comprehensive security response from law enforcement agencies across the country.
Addressing Regional Commanders
On Tuesday, Masengeli convened a crucial meeting with regional police bosses at the Embakasi Administration Police Training College (APTC). They discussed and refined strategies for handling the anticipated demonstrations.
Masengeli emphasized that while security measures would be enhanced nationwide, they would remain within reasonable limits.
“On matters ‘nanenane’ we are just talking about the general security,” Masengeli stated
Balancing Rights and Responsibilities
Masengeli took a measured stance on the protests, acknowledging the constitutional rights of citizens while emphasizing the importance of lawful conduct. He stated:
“Every Kenyan, as per the law, has the liberty to demonstrate, picket and assemble. Where the privilege of the rights of one ends, is where the other starts. We are all Kenyans and we have to abide by the rule of law. This is a country governed by democracy and the constitution.”
