Former DP Rigathi Gachagua Alleges Surveillance by Government Security Agents

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised alarm about alleged state surveillance, claiming security agents are closely monitoring his movements in unmarked vehicles.

In a detailed social media post on Wednesday, November 20, Gachagua provided specific details about what he describes as systematic intimidation by government security agents.

According to Gachagua, unmarked cars have been consistently tracking his movements, parking outside his Nairobi residence and monitoring his visitors.

He recounted a specific incident on Sunday, November 17, where a suspicious saloon car followed him to various locations, including PCEA Kerarapon Church and a lunch venue.

Attempting to verify the vehicle’s legitimacy, Gachagua ran the car’s number plate, discovering it was registered as a lorry – a detail he suggests confirms unauthorized surveillance. He drew parallels with the notorious surveillance methods of the Moi era, referencing the “Special Branch” of the previous regime.

Expressing concern about potential risks, the former Deputy President claimed he was making these allegations public to establish accountability in case of any harm. 

Since his impeachment just over a month ago, Gachagua has consistently criticized the administration he previously served, making public statements that challenge his former political allies.
