Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised alarm about alleged state surveillance, claiming security agents are closely monitoring his movements in unmarked vehicles.
In a detailed social media post on Wednesday, November 20, Gachagua provided specific details about what he describes as systematic intimidation by government security agents.

Security agents in unmarked cars have been following me wherever I go. They are parking at the entrance of my Nairobi residence, taking note of all my visitors, and they trail me whenever I leave the house, even all the way to my rural home in Nyeri.

According to Gachagua, unmarked cars have been consistently tracking his movements, parking outside his Nairobi residence and monitoring his visitors.
He recounted a specific incident on Sunday, November 17, where a suspicious saloon car followed him to various locations, including PCEA Kerarapon Church and a lunch venue.
Last Sunday, the below saloon car that was parked at the entrance to my residence trailed me to PCEA Kerarapon Church, followed me to where I went for a late lunch and back to the house! Attempting to verify the vehicle’s legitimacy, Gachagua ran the car’s number plate, discovering it was registered as a lorry – a detail he suggests confirms unauthorized surveillance. He drew parallels with the notorious surveillance methods of the Moi era, referencing the “Special Branch” of the previous regime.
“This surveillance and intimidation of Kenyans was last witnessed during the era of the dreaded ‘Special Branch’ during the 24 years of Moi’s misrule!”

Expressing concern about potential risks, the former Deputy President claimed he was making these allegations public to establish accountability in case of any harm.
“In this era of extrajudicial killings, forced abductions, and disappearances by state agents, I have thought it important to share with Kenyans the harassment and intimidation I am going through.”

Gachagua’s Request to The State
Since his impeachment just over a month ago, Gachagua has consistently criticized the administration he previously served, making public statements that challenge his former political allies.
The government has yet to respond to these latest surveillance allegations. Gachagua’s plea remains clear:
“I request the state to leave me alone! You hounded me out of office, and you should now allow me to enjoy my peace as a private citizen.”
